CRANKSHAFT/STARTER CLUTCH
Pull the alternator shaft out of the upper crankcase
and remove the starter clutch, spacer and a lternato r
d riven sproc ket .
STARTER CLUTCH INSPECTION
Check the sta rter clutch for smooth operation b y'
turning the starter driven gear .
The starter driven gear should tu rn counte rc loc k ­
wise-free ly and should not turn clockwise.

Remove the starter driven gear , needle bearing an d
co llar from the sta rter clutch.
Check the driven gear, needle bear ing and collar fo r
wear or damage .
