Management Software
Install the HEW Management Proxy on at least one Magnia Server that resides on the
network.
Management Console
The Management Console receives error information from the Management Proxy and
displays them as Alert Messages. It also allows the use of an Internet browser to obtain
Agent information or to setup alert events on the Agent machine. Most monitoring
operations are performed from the Management Console. The HEW Management
Console must be installed on the Management Console machine.

Security

HEW does not provide security for data transmitted over the network. You can utilize
Windows 2000 and IIS security mechanisms to limit access to HEW. Please refer to your
Operating System and IIS documentation for security settings.
When it's necessary to restrict the use of HEW to specific users, HEW folder access can
be changed using IIS settings.
With Windows 2000, Virtual Private Network (VPN) can be used for network
communication security.

Operating environment

The requirements for HEW operation are as follows:

Module Configuration Notes

Minimum configuration
In a single Magnia server environment, all HEW modules are installed locally on that
server. In this type of environment, error reporting functions will not work if the server
fails.
Medium configuration
In an environment in which several servers are installed, a Management Proxy is
installed on one server and only the Agent is installed on the other servers. The
Management Proxy runs 24 hours a day to monitor each Agent (including the
Management Proxy itself).
Large configuration
A large-scale configuration has several Management Proxies, each of which monitors
dozens of Agent Magnia servers.
