(5) Power Capping technology
Power Capping Control : When the Enable is selected, the Power Capping technology is enabled.
The default value is Disable.
Upper Limit : A user can configure the upper limit of the power consumption. When the Power
Capping Control is enabled, the CPU performance will decrease with the decreasing power
consumption. If the Upper Limit value falls below the Controllable setting range(dynamic value)
or
the value is invalid(except from 1 to 65535), the error message is shown. A user can
configure at any time, the setting will be immediately effected. The default value is 0.
Controllable setting range : The power controllable minimum value is shown. The value will be
dynamically changed.
Current Power Consumption : The current power consumption is shown. The value will be
periodically updated.
Max Power Consumption : The maximum value of the power consumption in the full machine
organization is shown as a guide.
IMPORTANT :
-
The Max Power Consumption is equal to the theoretical max
power value in the full machine organization. So, the value may
differ greatly from the Current Power Consumption(equals the
power consumption of the power supply).
-
When the Upper Limit value is under the Controllable setting
range, Power Capping Control acts as if minimum of the
controllable range is set.
-
When the Upper Limit value is under the Max Power
Consumption, the power consumption of the server will be
suppressed. For this reason the CPU performance will be
suppressed despite the current setting. Therefore we
recommend disabling the Power Capping Control if the CPU
performance is accorded priority over the power consumption.
-
This Power Capping Control requires the EIST(Enhanced Intel
SpeedStep(R) Technology) function. Please check to configure
the "Power Technology " is the "Energy Efficient" in the "CPU
Configuration" in the BIOS setup screen, or the "Power
Technology" is "Custom" and the EIST is "Enable". The "Power
Technology" default is "Energy Efficient".
-
This Power Capping Control requires the power control function
of the operating system. The operating systems supporting the
Power Capping Control are Microsoft Windows Server 2008 or
later, Red hat Enterprise Linux 5.6 or later and VMware
ESX/ESXi 4.0 or later. Do not use this feature except for these
operating systems.
