Chapter 7—Main Board

The main board contains the electronics and firmware that translates
incoming data on the RS-232 and parallel interfaces and processes them
into a bitmap pattern, that controls the heating of the dots on the print-
head, which in turn creates the printout. It also controls the media feed
and detects various error conditions using the connected sensors and
switches. The main board has a memory where the user can store graphics
and forms. The memory can be expanded by fitting an optional memory
cartridge directly to a connector on the main board.
