10.4 Test Mode

If no media is loaded, the LED control lamp will briefly turn red and then
switch to orange. No further action is taken until the printer has been loaded
with media and the Feed key is pressed. The LED then switches from orange
to green.
The printer is now ready for use.
The printer will enter Factory Default mode when the Feed key is pressed
at startup and no media is loaded. However, loading factory default settings
requires some user interaction:
• When the print mechanism starts to move, release the Feed key and
press it again. The LED will start flashing red.
• Press and hold the Feed key for more than 8 seconds and the LED will
stop flashing and emit a solid red light. This indicates all printer param-
eters have been reset to their default factory values.
To enter Test mode, keep the Feed key pressed down while switching on
the power. Do not release the Feed key until the LED control lamp flashes
orange.
The first thing that happens after you have entered the Test mode is that
the printer feeds out one or two blank forms (that is, labels, tags, tickets,
etc), followed by a label showing the printer's hardware configuration.
If you use longer forms you must set the correct length using the Set Maxi-
mum Label Length command. If you use black mark or continuous label
stock you also need to set the Select Label Stock Type command (see the
IPL Programmer's Reference Manual).
The printer will then enter Dump mode (see chapter 10.5). Dump mode
can be suspended by tapping the Feed key once, which causes the printer
to print a number of software configuration test labels. These test labels
contain a lot of information about the printer's current configuration and
gives you an opportunity to check the printout quality.
In this final stage of the Test mode, the user may print a Pitch label by
pressing the feed key. Leaving this state however requires a reboot.
