ENGINE OIL LEVEL CHECK

In four-stroke engines the engine oil is used to lubricate
timing components, the main bearings, and the thermal
unit. Insufficient oil can cause serious damage to the
engine.
In all four-stroke engines, deterioration of the oil and slight
consumption are to be considered normal. Consumption,
in particular, is closely related to running conditions (oil
consumption increases if the vehicle is used with the throt-
tle fully open).
Checking the oil level
This check should be performed when the engine is cold,
as described below:
1) Park the scooter on flat ground and put it on its centre
stand.
2) Stop the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil level
to stabilise.
3) Unscrew the cap/dipstick (A), dry the dipstick with a
clean cloth and re-insert it without screwing down
the cap.
4) Remove the cap/dipstick and make sure the level is
between the MAX and MIN marks; if necessary, top up
with Q8 CLASS 10W 40 oil.
Maximum oil quantity: 1.4 l
Max. oil quantity for periodic oil changes: 1.2 l
5) Refit cap/dipstick (A) and tighten the cap.
NOTE When checking the oil level, make sure the
scooter is perfectly upright; slight tilting to
either side may affect the accuracy of the oil
level reading.
If you need to check the level when the en-
gine is warm, remember that the level line
will be lower. It is best to wait at least 10 min-
utes after stopping the engine to obtain a
correct reading.
