If a problem still exists after you have checked the User Utility Status Messages and Error Codes as
described in the previous section, check the items in the following table. If the scanner still malfunctions
after you have checked these troubleshooting options, turn the scanner off, unplug the power cord and call
for service.
Symptom
The LED does not light
when the power switch is
turned on.
The computer does not
recognize the scanner.

Troubleshooting Scanner Operations

Possible Cause
Power cord is not plugged in.
Problem with power supply.
Scanner is not connected to the
computer properly.
Scanner has not been properly
configured using the Windows "Found
New hardware" procedure.
The USB interface of the computer is
not installed properly.
The scanner is connected to a USB
hub.
The USB cable does not have a High
Speed logo.
The computer cannot recognize the
SCSI board.
The same SCSI ID number is used for
the scanner and another device.
The scanner was turned on after the
computer was turned on.

Remedy
Insert the power cord firmly into the
power outlet and into the scanner power
input.
Disconnect the scanner from the power
outlet and call for service.
Connect the interface cable properly.

Uninstall the scanner from the computer.
Reinstall the scanner in order to
recognize the scanner hardware.
See page 29.
Check the computer to determine if the
USB interface is installed properly.
Check the USB properties using the
Windows Device Manager.
Do not connect the scanner to a USB
hub.
Use the cable provided with the scanner.
Check the computer to determine if the
SCSI board is installed properly. Check
the SCSI properties using the Windows
Device Manager.
Use different SCSI ID numbers for each
device. See page 115.
Turn the computer off. Turn the scanner
on and then turn the computer on again.
