STEP 3 Test the ProtectorSystem®
Withouta properly installedsafetyreversalsystem, p ersons(particularlysmallchildren)couldbe
SERIOUSLYINJURED or KILLEDbya closinggaragedoor.
• SafetyreversalsystemMUSTbetestedevery month.
• AfterANYadjustments are made,the safetyreversalsystemMUSTbetested.Door MUSTreverse
on contact w ith1-1/2"(3.8 cm)high object(or2x4 laidflat)on the floor.
1. Withthe door fullyopen,place a 1-1/2inch(3.8 cm)board (ora 2x4 laidflat) onthe floor,
centeredunder thegarage door.
2. Pressthe remotecontrolpush buttonto closethedoor. The door MUSTreversewhen itmakes
contactwiththe board.
Ifthe door stopsand does not reverseon theobstruction,thedowntravel needsto be increased(referto
AdjustmentStep1). Repeatthe test.Whenthe door reversesuponcontactwiththe 1-1/2inch board,
removethe boardand open/clocethe door 3 or 4 timesto testthe adjustment.Ifthegarage door opener
continuesto fail thesafetyreversal t est,calla traineddoor systems technician.

2. Pressthe remotecontrolpush buttonto closethe door.The door will not movemorethanan
inch(2.5 cm),andthe garagedoor opener lightswill flash10 times.
Thegarage door openerwill not closefroma remotecontrol iftheLED ineithersafetyreversingsensor
is off(alertingyou to the factthatthesensor is misaligned or obstructed).Ifthegarage door opener
closesthe door whenthesafetyreversingsensoris obstructed(andthe sensorsare no morethan6
inches[15cm] abovethe floor),callfor a traineddoor systems technician.
