STEP 15 Connect power
To preventpossibleSERIOUSINJURYor DEATHfrom electrocution or fire:
•
Besurepower is NOTcennectedto the opener,anddiscennectpowerto circuitBEFORE
removingcoverto establishpermanentwiringconnection.
•
Garagedoor installationandwiring MUSTbe incompliancewithALLlocalelectricaland building
codes.
•
NEVERusean extensioncord,2-wire adapter,or changeplug in any wayto makeitfit outlet. Be
surethe opener isgrounded.
Toavoidinstallation difficulties, d onotactivatethegaragedooropenerat thistime.
To reducethe riskof electricshock,your garagedoor opener has a groundingtype plug witha third
groundingpin. This plug willonly fitinto a grounding typeoutlet. Iftheplug doesn'tfit into youroutlet,
contact a qualifiedelectricianto install t he proper outlet.
THEREARETWOOPTIONSFORCONNECTING POWER:
TYPICAL WIRING
1. Plug inthe garagedoor opener into a groundedoutlet.
2. DONOTrun garagedoor openerat thistime.
PERMANENT WIRING
If permanent w iringis required by yourlocalcode, referto thefollowing procedure. Tomake a
permanent c onnection through the7/8 inchholein thetopof themotorunit(according to local
code):
1. Removethe motorunitcover screwsand setthe coveraside.
2. Removetheattached3-prong cord.
3. Connecttheblack(line)wire to thescrewon the brassterminal;the white(neutral)wireto the
screwon the silverterminal;andthe groundwire to thegreen groundscrew.The opener
must be grounded.
4. Reinstallthecover.
