Word Processing 78
The method for entering text described in this manual is called insert
mode. In the insert mode, the characters you type appear at the insertion
point, pushing all existing characters to the right to make room for the
new characters.
Insert mode is the recommended mode because you will not lose any text
unless you select it and delete it. If you want the characters you type to
replace the characters to the right of the insertion point, turn the insert
mode off.
Word wrap means that you do not have to press
on a typewriter) to start a new line of text. As you type on the keyboard,
the words appear in the text area. As words reach the end of a line, they
automatically wrap down and continue on the next line. This keeps the
lines and sentences together in the same paragraph.
The insertion point is the blinking vertical line that indicates where the
characters you type appear on the screen. On a blank page, the insertion
point appears at the upper left corner. While you are typing, the insertion
point moves to the right, appearing after the last word. When you need to
make changes to something you have already typed, you can move the
insertion point anywhere in the text. You cannot move the insertion
point to an area where there is no text unless you use the
