Environments without a DHCP Server
1. Connect the TaskSmart W2200 appliance server and the Windows client
workstation to your network. Both systems must be on the same subnet.
The appliance needs a DHCP server on its subnet to get a temporary IP
address. The temporary IP address is used to access the appliance from
your Web browser, from where you give it a permanent IP address. The
TCU queries its subnet for a DHCP server and provides DHCP service
for the appliance if another DHCP server is not found.
NOTE: The TaskSmart Configuration Utility (TCU) is safe in environments with DHCP
servers or in environments that do not normally use DHCP services. The TCU does not act
as a general purpose DHCP server. The TCU provides only addresses for Compaq
TaskSmart appliances, and only if no other DHCP servers are present. The TCU stops
DHCP services if another DHCP server becomes active on the client's subnet.
2. Power up your TaskSmart W2200 appliance server. Wait 5 minutes for
the appliance to completely start. You will hear a melodic string of notes
when the appliance is fully powered up.
CAUTION: Powering down the appliance without proper shutdown can damage
the operating system. If damage occurs, use the Quick Restore CD to restore
factory default configuration.
IMPORTANT: If the appliance server and the client workstation are not on the same
subnet, and the firewall is in the path between the different subnets, then the firewall
must allow traffic on IP ports 21, 22, 80, 2301, and 3201.
3. Insert the Compaq TaskSmart Configuration Utility (TCU) CD into a
Windows client workstation. The utility automatically starts. If it does
not automatically start, run
drive.
If a DHCP server is not found, then you are prompted to use the client
utility as a DHCP server. Click OK to start the client's DHCP service.
The utility then automatically begins searching the local subnet for the
appliance.
4. Find your appliance in the list on your screen, and then click the
IP Address or Name field for the appliance. Your browser will launch
and the appliance configuration screen is displayed.
NOTE: For security reasons, be sure to change the appliance passwords from the default
passwords.
5. After the System Administrator ID and password are changed from the
defaults, double-click the Authentication field for the appliance in the
Windows utility to enter the new authentication information.
