IP Address
The Internet protocol address that the domain name server translates into a
domain name. The format of an IP address is four numbers separated by
periods. Each number can be 0 to 255; for example: 1.150.12.130.
Also, an identifier for a device on a TCP/IP network. TCP/IP networks route
messages to the IP address of the destination. Within an isolated network, IP
addresses can be randomly designated, as long as each is unique. Connecting a
private network to the Internet requires a registered IP address to avoid
duplication. The InterNIC Registration Service assigns Internet addresses.
