Abstract: The waiting is over! Novell has successfully launched its
powerful, next-generation network operating system, NetWare 5.
Providing superior management and control of network applications
and resources, NetWare 5 is ideally suited for both Internet and
intranet operations.

shortcuts, and enhanced commands that help network administrators,

    NetWare 5: At Your Command To launch any NLM or to connect to remote servers for file manipulations, this management utility’s commands are extended and also apply to the remote file system. To view all version and date information for a specific CDM, DSK, HAM (Host Adapter Module), LAN, NLM, or PSM (Platform Support Module) file, just highlight the file and press Enter.

To access infrequently used options and make last-minute changes in your server installation, click the Customize button on the Server Summary screen. Now breathe a sigh of relief because here’s where you can easily modify any prior incomplete or incorrect options.

    The volume can fail and any information being written to the array will be lost. Remember when loading Compaq custom drivers for drives and adapters, you don’t have to use the SLOT= parameter. The new drivers automatically load for each instance of the device that is detected by the system.

    And yes, this works for CPQFC.HAM, CPQSCSI.HAM, and actually, any CPQ*.HAM. Compaq valued-added drivers give you the ability to remove or add a single instance of a driver, called instance unloading and loading. To remove a single instance of an adapter driver (.HAM) so that the card can be removed or replaced, enter REMOVE STORAGE ADAPTER=ADAPTER_ID.

    NetWare 5: At Your Command SCMD.NLM enables NetWare 5 to transmit and receive IP and IPX data across what is essentially a single protocol network. If IP Only is selected, SCMD.NLM will be loaded automatically by AUTOEXEC.NCF. By removing the SCMD line from the AUTOEXEC file, all IPX compatibility will be lost on an IP-Only network.
