FT

Gateway
A device that allows hosts in a local subnet to communicate with other
subnets. One function of a router is to act as a gateway.
Graphic User Interface (GUI)
A graphics-based user interface that incorporates icons, pull-down menus, and
a mouse. The GUI has become the standard method that users use to interact
with a computer. The three major GUIs are Microsoft Windows, Macintosh,
and Motif. In a client/server environment, the GUI resides in the user's client
machine.

Handshaking
Preliminary signal transfer between communicating elements to verify that
communication has been established.
Hertz (Hz)
A measure of frequency in which one hertz equals one cycle per second.
HTTP
See HyperText Transfer Protocol.
HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP)
An application-level protocol that enables communications between clients
and servers on the World Wide Web. The protocol provides a way for a client
to access a server and requests documents created using HTML.
