Session Layer

Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)
A standard network management protocol developed for the TCP/IP Internet,
designed for communications between agents and managers running on
diverse platforms.

Subnet
A part of a network having the same network address as other parts of the
network, but with a unique subnet number.
A portion of a network that shares a common address component. On TCP/IP
networks, subnets are defined as all devices whose IP addresses have the same
prefix. For example, all devices with IP addresses that start with 100.100.100.
would be part of the same subnet. Dividing a network into subnets is useful for
both security and performance reasons. IP networks are divided using a subnet
mask.
Subnet Mask
A pattern of characters, 32 bits long, used to select some of the bits from an IP
address to route messages to a subnet. A mask is used to determine the subnet
to which an IP address belongs.
Subnetting enables the network administrator to further divide the host part of
the address into two or more subnets. In this case, a part of the host address is
reserved to identify the particular subnet.
