Wide Area Network (WAN)
Any network that covers a large geographic area (50 miles or more) and may
include packet switching, public data networks, and value-added networks.
(WANs) can be characterized by their large size (in comparison to local area
network [LAN]), relatively low bandwidth, and high degree of fault tolerance.
Workstation
Microcomputer on a local area network (LAN) that runs application software.
Sometimes called a node.
