The vehicle is fitted with a separate mixer to blend the petrol with the oil for the lubrication of the engine. It is important to check the level of the oil every day. If you use the vehicle without oil the engine suffers severe damages (see page 65 "MIXER OIL BLEED- ING").

  • Page 27: Catalytic Silencer

The CATALYTIC SCARABEO 50 is fitted with a silencer with metal catalytic converter, "platinum-rhodium bivalent type". This device sees for the oxidation of the CO (carbonic oxide) and of the HC (unburned hydrocarbons), contained in the exhaust gas, changing them into carbon dioxide and into steam respectively. Moreover, the high temperature reached by the exhaust gas, because of the catalytic reaction, allows the burning of the oil particles thus maintaining the silencer clean and eliminating the exhaust fumes.
  • Page 29 Before riding the scooter carefully read this part of the manual and always remember to: RIGOROUSLY OBSERVE THE TRAFFIC REGULATION ALWAYS DRIVE CAREFULLY...
  • Page 30 To drive the scooter it is necessary that you have all the re- quirements provided for in law (driving licence, full age, psy- chophysical ability, insurance, state taxes, registration, licence-plate or identification sign, etc.). We advise you to gradually get to know the scooter, driving it in areas with low traffic and/or in private areas.
  • Page 31 The most part of the road accidents is ascribable to the driver’s lack of experience. NEVER lend the scooter to beginners and, in any case, be sure that the driver has all the requirements necessary for driving. Rigorously observe the road signs and the national and local road regulations.
  • Page 32 Do not hit obstacles which could damage the scooter or make you loose the control. Do not always drive in the high-speed lane. Always drive with both hands on the handlebar and both feet on the foot-rest, in the correct driving posture. While driving absolutely avoid standing up or stretching your limbs.
  • Page 33 While driving the driver should never be inattentive, neither be distracted nor be influenced by people, things, movements (do not smoke, eat, drink, read, etc.). For the scooter only use fuels and lubricants indicated in the "Lubricants Chart"; repeatedly verify that the oil and fuel levels are as prescribed.
  • Page 34 If necessary let the scooter be controlled by an Authorized Aprilia Agent or Dealer, carefully checking the frame, the handlebar, the suspensions, the safety parts and devices whose wholeness you are not able to verify.
  • Page 35 Any modifications carried out on the scooter or the removal of original parts can impair the performance of the scooter, thus ONLY ORIGINALS reducing the safety level or even make it illegal. We advise you to abide always by the national and local laws and regulations as far as the scooter equipment is concerned.
  • Page 36: Clothing

Before moving off always wear a crash helmet, correctly fast- ened. Check that it is homologized, sound, of the right size and that the visor is clean. Wear protective clothing, preferably in light and/or reflecting colours. In this way you will make yourselves more visible to other drivers, thus notably reducing the risk of being knocked down, and you will be more pro- tected in case you fall.
  • Page 37: Accessories

The owner of the scooter is responsible for the choice of the accessories installation and use. By the assemblying we advise to avoid covering horns or lights with accessories, which could impair their function, could limit the suspension stroke and the steering angle, hamper the working of the controls and reduce the height from the ground and the angle of inclination while turning.
  • Page 38: Load

When loading your scooter be careful and controlled. It is important to keep the luggage the closest to the ba- rycentre of the scooter and to uniformly distribute the load on the two sides to reduce any lack of balance to the minimum. Check that the load is firmly secured to the vehicle.
  • Page 39 Do not carry animals or children on the glove-compartment or on the luggage-rack. Do not exceed the maximum load allowed for each side-bag. When the scooter is overloaded, its stability and its ma- neouvrability are endangered.
