Each compressed dot line (using a run--length encoding
scheme) is preceded by an uppercase "G." Each uncom-
pressed dot line is preceded by an upper case "U."
Vertical white space (where several consecutive dot lines
have not been printing) can be efficiently handled using an
upper case "A" followed by a single byte count of the num-
ber of dot lines to advance.
Compressed dot lines use a single graphics byte, followed by
