The source is used to stimulate the device under test. The HP 3563A offers several types of stimulus
signals, all of which can be used in either analog or digital form. When the internal 256 kHz sample
clock is used, all source outputs - except pulse, step, ramp, and arbitrary source (user saved 2) -
are band-limited to the measurement frequency span (at spans
power with respect to the frequency span selected and to minimize out-of-band excitations. When
using the external sample clock at rates less than 256 kHz, the source output may no longer be
band-limited (refer to "The Analog and Digital Source Model" in chapter 14 for details).
