NOTE
IVR EC – Jet Fans

36 Speed control

Natural frequencies:
Each fan component has natural frequencies (resonances), which can be passed during start-up and shutdown, but
they must not be constantly stimulated by operation at this critical speed. Constant operation in this range can lead
to component failure.
The fans are designed and calculated so that natural frequencies are not generally stimulated during operation at a
constant design speed.
Commissioning speed-controlled fans:
It is necessary to check the natural frequency over the entire speed range of the fan during commissioning. In this
respect, the vibrations at the housing and bearing over the entire speed range, in the installed state, must be measured
and recorded.
The measurement must be carried out by specialist personnel or it can be commissioned by the manufacturer.
The natural frequencies which lie within the fan speed range must be hidden in the control unit by the corresponding
parametrisation.
Operating speed-controlled fans:
In order to avoid high loads on the impeller, the acceleration and deceleration ramps should be programmed flat to
prevent signs of fatigue. Fast and frequent acceleration and deceleration processes shorten the service life of the fan
and can lead to damage to the drive train or the impeller. Periodic control behaviour must also be excluded.

37 Electrical connection

m Before any maintenance or installation work or before opening the terminal compartment, the device is to
be fully isolated from the power supply and secured against unintended restart!
The electrical connection must be carried out only by a qualified electrician in accordance with the data in the terminal
box and enclosed wiring diagrams.
− The relevant standards, safety regulations (e.g. DIN VDE 0100) and the technical connection conditions of the local
electricity supply companies must be observed.
− Connection data must comply with the information on the motor rating plate.
− The introduction of the supply line must be carried out professionally! The connection line in the isolator switch must
compensate for the potential fan vibrations.
− Never lay the lines over sharp corners.
− Security components, e.g. protection guards, covers and latches may not be dismantled, bypassed or disabled.
− Further operations see the following section "Commissioning".
− Earth connections, including any supplementary equipotential bonding must be properly installed!
Electrical connection via external housing terminal box (dimensions: 110 x 110 x 66 mm) made of plastic in IP55. 2x
pre-stamp in M25 for customer installation of cable gland (cable gland provided by customer). All connection cables
from the EC motor are led to the terminal strip in the housing terminal box.
m
Activation / deactivation:
Frequent switching on and off of EC fans can be carried out via the 0-10 V control input by switching off the control
signal to 0 V. This applies to operation with an external potentiometer or external 0-10 V signal from the building
management system. Switching off is alternatively also possible via a release input, depending on the type. This is
gentle on the electronics and ensures a long service life. If this is not easy to realise, e.g. when operating with an
internal potentiometer, it can also be done by switching off the mains supply. In general, a time interval of at least
120 seconds must be observed when switching the mains off/on.

38 Commissioning

The following inspection work must be carried out or tested before the initial commissioning:
− The transport safety device must be removed before the functional test!
− Check for operation according to the intended purpose of the fan.
− Check permissible air flow temperature.
− Compare power supply voltage with data on the rating plate.
− Check fan for solid fastening and professional electrical installation (electrician), check jumpers in the electrical
connection if necessary.
– If required the potentiometer can be adjusted alternativley connect to external controller.
− Check all parts especially screws, nuts and protection guards for tight fit. Without loosening screws!
− Check unhindered running of impeller.
− Check connection of power unit and all monitoring equipment to the power supply (electrician).
− Ensure that the suction and outlet areas cannot be accessed.
− Compliance of direction of rotation and airflow direction. Check direction of rotation of impeller; by short-time acti-
vation.
− Note overrun time: Ensure that the small components have stopped moving before opening the cover.
− Perform visual inspection for forgotten or loose parts (e.g. tools, small parts, installation debris) in the fan housing.
