Vehicle data for off-road driving
Fording depth
* NOTE Damage due to water when ford‐
ing
Water can enter the engine compartment
and vehicle interior in the following cases:
the maximum permissible fording depth
R
when driving through standing water is
exceeded
a bow wave forms during fording
R
water accumulates during fording of flow‐
R
ing water
Do not exceed the maximum permissi‐
#
ble fording depth and drive slowly
through the water.
The specified value indicates the maximum per‐
missible fording depth for vehicles that are ready
to drive – fuel tank filled to 90%, all fluids topped
up, with driver. It applies to slow driving through
standing water.
Driving through flowing water reduces tyre trac‐
tion. The permissible fording depth is then corre‐
spondingly lower.
Observe the notes on off-road driving and ford‐
ing (
page 138).

Angle of approach/departure
The specified values are maximum values for
vehicles that are ready to drive – fuel tank filled
to 90%, all fluids topped up, with driver. The val‐
ues depend on the vehicle tyres and vehicle
weight.
Observe the notes on driving in mountainous ter‐
rain (
