184 Driving and parking
The vehicle is stationary.
R
The driver's door is closed or the seat belt on
R
the driver's side is fastened.
The engine is running or has been automati‐
R
cally switched off by the ECO start/stop
function.
The electric parking brake is released.
R
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is deacti‐
R
vated.
The transmission is in position h, k or i.
R
Activating the HOLD function
Depress the brake pedal, and after a short
#
time quickly depress further until the ë
display appears in the multifunction display.
Release the brake pedal.

Deactivating the HOLD function
Depress the accelerator pedal to pull away.

Depress the brake pedal until the ë dis‐
#
play disappears from the multifunction dis‐
play.
The HOLD function is deactivated in the follow‐
ing situations:
Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC is activa‐
R
ted.
The transmission is shifted to position j.
R
The vehicle is secured with the electric park‐
R
ing brake.
In the following situations, the vehicle is held by
transmission position j and/or by the electric
parking brake:
The seat belt is unfastened and the driver's
R
door is opened.
The vehicle is switched off.
R
There is a malfunction in the system or the
R
power supply is insufficient.
Function of adjustable damping
The variable adjustable damping improves driv‐
ing comfort and ensures the best possible sus‐
pension, even with a laden vehicle. The damping
is adjusted depending on the drive program
selected or when using the off-road systems.
The adjustable damping consists of:
steel suspension
R
three damper settings: Comfort, Sport and
R
Off-road
Adaptive Damping System with constant
R
damping force adjustment
DYNAMIC SELECT switch
R
Suspension settings for each drive program:
Drive program A and ;: Comfort
R
Drive program C: Sport
R
Drive program ë and O: Offroad

Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
Function of Parking Assist PARKTRONIC
Parking Assist PARKTRONIC is an electronic
parking assistance system with ultrasound. It
monitors the area around your vehicle using mul‐
tiple sensors on the front bumper and on the
rear bumper. Parking Assist PARKTRONIC shows
you the distance between your vehicle and a
detected obstacle visually and audibly.
