Troubleshooting

The following chart is designed to help you solve problems that are not equipment malfunctions.
If you are unable to locate the cause of a problem or solve it through the use of this chart, contact your nearest
Icom Dealer or Service Center.
L See the Advanced Manual for the problems when communicating through a repeater.
L "AM" indicates the PDF type Advanced manual.
L "CG" indicates the Connection guide.
Problem
Power does not turn ON when
is pushed.
No sound is heard from the speaker.
Sensitivity is too low, and only strong
signals are heard.
The transceiver automatically
switches to transmit while receiving.
No power output or the output power
is too low.
Possible cause
The power cable is not properly
connected.
The external power supply is turned
OFF.
A DC power cable fuse is blown.
The audio level is too low.
The squelch is closed.
The external speaker is connected.
In the FM mode, the Tone Squelch
function is turned ON.
In the ATV mode, "ATV Audio Sub
Carrier Frequency" is set to "OFF."
The Attenuator is activated.
RF gain control is set too low.
("RFG" is displayed.)
The antenna is defective, or the
coaxial cable is defective.
You are using an antenna that is not
suitable for the band you have selected.
The squelch is closed.
The VOX function is ON.
The VOX gain is set too high.
The transceiver receives the SEND
signal from the software on the PC.
The operating frequency is outside a
ham band.
The transmit output power is set too
low.
The modulation input signal level is
set too low.
The output power is limited because
of power amplifier protection.
The microphone is bad, or the [MIC]
jack is shorted or defective.
The antenna SWR is more than 3:1.
In the ATV mode, the input from [AV-
IN] is excessive (over deviation).
The TX indicator blinks red.

Solution
Properly reconnect the DC power
cable.
Turn ON the external power supply.
Find and repair the cause of the
problem, and then replace the
damaged fuse with a new one.
Rotate
clockwise to
obtain a suitable listening level.
Adjust the squelch level.
Disconnect the external speaker.
Turn OFF the Tone Squelch function. AM
Set "ATV Audio Sub Carrier
Frequency" to other than "OFF."
Turn OFF the Attenuator.
Set the RF gain higher until "RFG"
just goes off.
Repair the problem and then
reconnect the antenna.
Connect an antenna suitable for the
operating band.
Adjust the squelch level.
Push
to turn OFF the VOX
function.
Adjust the VOX gain.
Confirm the "USB SEND" setting.
Set the frequency to a ham band.
Adjust the RF POWER in the Multi-
function menu.
Adjust the MIC GAIN level in the
Multi-function menu.
Stop transmitting, and then wait
until the temperature of the power
amplifier FET drops sufficiently.
Test the microphone and check the
[MIC] jack.
Adjust the antenna for an SWR of
less than 3:1.
Set "AV-IN Video Input Level" to a
lower level.
