REREQUISITES FOR SECURE SEEDING
Tractor and seed drill prerequisites
Check the tyre pressures on the tractor and the seed drill (in the fi eld, set a tyre pressure of approx. 0.9 bar to limit settling and tyre
tracks).
The tractor's raising function must be set to the maximum control position.
The tractor's hitching arms must be in the free position, turned upwards so that the seed drill can follow the lie of the land.
Check the condition and the setting of the roller cleaners and ensure that they are not worn or out of adjustment to avoid any risk
that they will retain debris (clogging) and allow the earth to stick (degrading the ability to deposit seeds).
It must be possible to run a knife blade between the roller and the cleaner.
Check that the skids are clean (no earth, foreign objects or plant residue) and their condition (no breakage or wear).
Check skid adjustment in relation to the opening disc and check disc condition
Ensure that there is a gap of 7-8 mm between the back of the skirt and the opening disc)
Ensure a minimum gap between the disc and the skid (0 mm at the carbine tip, 1 mm at the top of the plate
Check the condition of the opening discs
Extreme wear limit warning: 415 mm diameter
Disc replacement wear limit warning: 410 mm diameter
Ensure that disc is not more than 1.5 mm out of true
Ground preparation prior to seeding
We recommend driving over land that has had stubble removed if it is "blown" or "clod laden" for enhanced traction and greater
stability.
The ground should be a level and homogeneous as possible to avoid any "slipping" between seed rows.
Managing the seeding job
Use an aggressive angle of attack for sowing or working the land when uneven (where there are volumes of debris or earth dams)
to improve the ability to roll out the seed lines and ensure homogeneous drilling.
The recommended seeding speed is 7 - 8 km/h on land that is not stony.
Progress must be smooth to avoid creating any turbulence and kicking up debris or earth.
If jamming occurs due to an accumulation of debris aff ecting the seeding components, increase speed by 1 - 2 km/h.
If the ground is stony, reduce speed to 5 - 6 km/h.
When turning around at the end of the fi eld, place the machine on the ground while aligned with the tractor.
A wider furrow is recommended.
The tractor should not skid when debris is present (stirring up too much earth and debris may cause jamming).
The seed drill should be placed on the ground.
Preparing the tractor
- In order to reduce compaction, the tractor should be fi tted with wide wheels.
- Adjust the tyre pressures to their lowest permissible level.
We recommend that you use 800 mm low-pressure wheels for towing the seed drill.
We recommend that you use dual wheels if working in a ploughed fi eld.
