5 Usage

5.1 Notes on processing and storage

Processing

At a room temperature of 23°C, the processing time of BetaSil is about 5 minutes. Lower temper

atures increase the processing time while higher temperatures reduce it. The processing time

begins as soon as the two components mix. BetaSil cannot be shaped after the end of the pro

cessing time. Vulcanisation is complete after approximately 15-20 minutes at a room temperature

of 23°C.

After vulcanisation, BetaSil will crosslink with itself as long as the surface is free of grease. New

BetaSil can simply be applied to the old, with a recommended layer overlap of 1 cm. The shorter

the time between the first and second application, the better the bond will be.

Once fully vulcanised, BetaSil is permanently stable and not altered by outside influences (tem

perature, air pressure, relative humidity). Unprocessed BetaSil can be stored for later use,

provided the cartridge is sealed with the cover cap.

Storage

BetaSil in sealed cartridges can be stored at room temperature until the specified expiry date. At

a storage temperature in excess of 25°C, the material may thicken and become unusable. Stor

age in a refrigerator is optimal, separate from unprocessed lamination resin.

5.2 Adapting a Liner

Required tools and materials:

634A58 isopropyl alcohol, 749Y16 sanding sleeve 40 grit, 749Z12=160X16 sanding brush,

749F7 foam polishing roller

1) Determine the patient's residual limb dimensions to establish the liner size.

2) Check the fit of the liner on the patient and trim the liner if necessary (Fig. 9).

3) INFORMATION: Do not use soap for cleaning under any circumstances. Soap prevents

good cross-linking since it acts as a parting agent. Acetone, thinner or similar

solvents irritate the skin and destroy the silicone.

Clean the entire area of the liner where BetaSil will be applied with a degreasing cleaner.

4) Allow the liner to air dry for at least 5 minutes.

5) Load the BetaSil cartridge with a static mixer and insert it in the dispenser (see Page 10).

6) Discharge the first drop of BetaSil onto a cloth. This ensures that the components are mixed.

At the same time, the drop serves as a reference sample to assess the state of vulcanisation.

7) Apply the BetaSil to the desired area of skin, e.g. scar tissue (Fig. 10).

8) Remove excess material with your finger (Fig. 11).

9) Pull on the liner.

10) If necessary: apply additional BetaSil (Fig. 12)
