CONTROLS
MACHINE OPERATION AND SYSTEM FUNCTIONS
STARTUP
Once the truck is started, the control system will power up. The first thing that will be shown on the screen is a
splash screen with the SAC logo. After the system boots, the display will default to the Operation screen (Figure 3).
This screen will show the system operating parameters which include the hydrostatic pump system pressure(s),
the hydrostatic pump charge pressure(s), hydraulic oil temperature, conveyor speed, and auger speed(s). If at any
time during operation the hydraulic system or electrical system components fail, a warning message will be
displayed alerting you of the problem. In some cases the system will not allow further operation without
acknowledging the warning and taking appropriate action (see Troubleshooting Section).
Once the unit has been started, check that the hydraulic pressures and oil temperature are within an acceptable
range. Oil temperature should be at least 32°F before running the augers or accelerating the engine past an idle.
Damage to the hydrostatic pumps could occur if this happens frequently. If the oil temperature is below 32°F, the
system will not allow the augers to turn faster than 6 RPM, no matter the engine speed. By idling the truck with
the augers turning, the hydraulic oil will warm up to an acceptable temperature to begin operating the machine.
The following hydraulic pressures are given for a unit that is not loaded with feed. With the augers turned off and
the truck at an idle, hydraulic charge pressure should be 300-350 psi. Hydraulic system pressure should be
equivalent. With the augers running and the truck at an idle, hydraulic charge pressure should be 280-300 psi and
the system pressure should be equivalent.
When the truck is running at mixing speed (typically 1500 engine RPM) and the augers are off, hydraulic charge
pressure should be 350-400 psi and system pressure will be equivalent. With the augers on, hydraulic charge
pressure will be 280-350 psi, while the system pressure will be equivalent.
If all components of the system are functioning properly and there are no warning or error messages shown on the
display, the operator can begin to operate the mixer for mixing feed ingredients and feeding. Refer to the 3600
Series Operators Manual for loading commodities sequences and overall machine operating guidelines.
MIXING INGREDIENTS AND UNLOADING THE MIXER
The mixer augers will turn a maximum of 36 RPM in mixing mode. Both augers can be controlled independently of
each other with an infinite adjustment of speed between 0-36 RPM. The control system allows the operator to
choose an auger speed and maintain that speed independent of chassis engine RPM compared to a typical PTO or
hydrostatic drive system that varies auger speed with engine speed. This is true as long as the pumps are
providing enough oil flow to the auger motors to maintain a set speed. For example: The operator sets both the
front and rear auger speeds at 10 RPM. At an idle (engine speed of 800 RPM), both augers turn at 10 RPM.
Without adjusting the speed of the augers, the operator starts to drive the mixer with an engine speed of 1500
RPM. The augers will still be turning at 10 RPM. On the other hand, the operator sets the auger speed to the
maximum 36 RPM with the speed adjustment knobs. At an idle, the auger speed is only 20 RPM. When the
operator begins to drive the mixer at 1500 RPM, the auger speed increases to 36 RPM and remains there. In this
case, the engine speed was too low to achieve the desired 36 RPM at an idle, but once the engine was sped up,
enough oil flow was available to achieve 36 RPM.
The operator can choose the auger RPM that works best for a particular ration, or based on length of time to load
and completely mix the load. Typically, a full 36 RPM auger speed is used for mixing. The operator will turn the
augers on with the switch pad on the console armrest and adjust the auger speed with the speed knobs. Once the
loading and mixing cycle have been completed, the operator will turn the augers off using the switch pad on the
console armrest.
