Engine overheating

If the engine overheats, the engine emits
pinging noises and engine performance
drops noticeably as well as the water
temperature warning light flashes.
In this case, observe the following WARNINGS
and follow the procedure described.
WAANINNG
w
To help reduce the risk of burn or
serious bodily injury;
Allow the engine to cool before
checking any component in the
engine compartment.
Do not attempt to remove the
radiator cap when the engine and
radiator are still hot.
As the radiator cap is of the
pressurized type, hot coolant will
splash out.
Do not open the hood if steam is
coming out.
Never touch or come close to the
radiator fan blades when the engine
is running.
1. Park the vehicle on a safe place and turn
the air conditioner off.
2. If steam is coming out from the hood,
stop the engine. Keep the hood closed
until no steam comes out from the hood.
When no steam comes out any more, start
the engine and open the hood so that the
inside can be ventilated.
3. Visually inspect the engine compartment.
If the engine compartment exhibits any
of the following, immediately stop the
engine and contact an authorized Perodua
Service Centre or repairer or, another duly
qualified and equipped professional.
• If the cooling fan does not rotate:
• If vapor or hot water leaks from hoses,
etc.:
• If the radiator reserve tank has no water:
• If the fan belt is cut:
4. Stop the engine when the water temperature
warning light goes out .
5. After the engine has cooled completely,
check the components.
6. Check the cooling water for the proper
amount, the fan belt for looseness, the
radiator core (heat radiating section) for
conspicuous contamination or adhesion
of dirt.
7. Add coolant if the coolant level is
insufficient. (See Section 14)
8. Have the vehicle checked by an
authorized Perodua Service Centre as
soon as possible.
The engine is more prone to overheat in
hot weather. The following should be
checked regularly:
• Water leakage in the cooling system
• Water level of the radiator and reserve
tank
• Radiator fin clogging
• Drive belt tension
If the engine overheats frequently, have the
cooling system checked by an authorized
Perodua Service Centre.
