7.3 Printing troubleshooting

7.3 Printing troubleshooting
Note: If any of the printing errors emerges, it is necessary to check all the wiring and connectors on the printer PCB and to
check their proper connection.
ECR displays error messages
printer doesn't print at all
printer prints one solid line or leaves blank places on a constant position
one or both motors stand still, paper burns in the printer
paper tape cutter doesn't cut
paper tape is not wound or is wound weakly
Note: Malfunctions beyond these guidelines are to be entrusted to the authorised service centre of the Elcom company.
Doing so, you can avoid further unnecessary damage of electronics or PCBs.

Doing so, you can avoid further unnecessary damage of electronics or PCBs.

7.5 Keyboard troubleshooting

7.5 Keyboard troubleshooting
keyboard doesn't react to the pressing of keys
7.6 Troubleshooting for the real-time circuit
date or time is re-set after the ECR is turned on
time cannot be programmed to another value
the time appears as FF-FF-FF after programming
Note: Malfunctions beyond these guidelines are to be entrusted to the authorised service centre of the Elcom company.
Doing so, you can avoid further unnecessary damage of electronics or PCBs.

7.7 Communication troubleshooting

7.7 Communication troubleshooting
ECR does not communicate with PC (via RS232)

- if the EPROM is OK, the error can be in a PCB, microprocessor, RAM, or U
(entrust the main service centre)
- regardless of the error type, check first all the wiring and connectors on
the printer PCB and check their proper connection
- check the presence of the +5 V and +24 V voltage on the printer PCB
- measure whether the correct +24 V voltage is on the printer PCB
- printing head is damaged, replace the entire printer
- check the signals on both step-motors; if they are incorrect, replace U3
and U4 on the printer PCB; if they are OK, replace the printer
- check the cutter connection; if it is connected properly and still it doesn't
cut, replace the U5 on the printer PCB or the cutter itself
- check the motor voltage during print; if it's below 6.3 V or none at all,
check the +6.3 V power supply on the main PCB, check all the wiring on
the motor, and check the fit of connectors; if the motor voltage is correct
and it still winds weakly or not at all, replace the motor
- check the elastic band status on the motor spindle
- replace the display for a 100 % functional one; if this fails to fix the prob-
lem, check the cable connecting the display to the ECR
- check whether the display connector is plugged properly on the printer
PCB
- check the fit of the cable connecting the printer PCB to the main PCB
- check the ECR functionality with other PC or POS keyboard
-
