7.2.2

Teaching the switching outputs

You can set switching points, hysteresis and switching behavior for the switching outputs via the configura-
tion menu.
Alternatively, the switching output can be taught via IO-Link commands (Sensor Studio configuration soft-
ware) or via pin 5.
NOTICE
The teach-in described below is only possible for sensors with switching input.
Ä Activate teaching in the configuration menu via the OLED display and keyboard:
Input > Input Mode > Teach
NOTICE
Move through the configuration menu with the navigation button
Activate the desired selection with the enter button
Ä Statically position the measurement object at the desired distance.
Ä Activate the teach input (pin 5) by applying a signal (see chapter 7.1.2 "Teaching the analog output").
The width of the low level at the teach input is determined by the teach-in function.

Teach-in using automatic switching mode (Auto-teach)
Auto-teach offers the following possibilities for teaching the switching range:
The examples describe teaching switching output Q1 for a sensor with a measurement range of
50 mm ... 8000 mm.
• Teach the upper switching point
If the lower switching point is set to the lower limit of the measurement range using the menu or config-
uration software, the upper switching point is taught.
Switching point Q1 Lower Sw. Pt. = 50 mm and switching point Q1 Upper Sw. Pt. < 8000 mm, e.g.
• Switching point Q1 Lower Sw. Pt. = 50 mm
• Switching point Q1 Upper Sw. Pt. = 1200 mm
The teach point defines the upper switching point. If a measurement distance of e.g. 1000 mm is now
taught, Q1 switches on at 50 mm and back off at 1000 mm.
• Teach the lower switching point
If the upper switching point is set to the upper limit of the measurement range using the menu or config-
uration software, the lower switching point is taught.
Switching point Q1 Upper Sw. Pt. = 8000 mm and switching point Q1 Lower Sw. Pt. > 50 mm, e.g.
• Switching point Q1 Upper Sw. Pt. = 8000 mm
• Switching point Q1 Lower Sw. Pt. = 1000 mm
The teach point defines the lower switching point. If a measurement distance of e.g. 1000 mm is now
taught, Q1 switches on at 1000 mm and back off at 8000 mm.
