Taking adequate protective measures for disturbance-
free operation
The following must be taken into account for disturbance-
free operation of the device. Deviations require specific
measures regarding electrical safety and EMC.
Use only original HEIDENHAIN cables. Consider the
voltage drop in the supply wires
Use connecting elements (such as connectors or
terminal boxes) with metal housings
Connect the housings of the encoder, motor,
connecting elements and subsequent electronics
through the shield of the cable. Connect the shield
over a large area and in all directions (360°)
Connect the external shield to functional ground as per
the mounting instructions
Prevent contact of the shield (e.g. connector housing)
with other metal surfaces. Pay attention to this when
installing cables
Do not install signal cables in the direct vicinity of
interference sources (inductive consumers such as
contactors, motors, frequency inverters, solenoids,
etc.)
Ensure sufficient decoupling from cables that conduct
interference signals. Sufficient decoupling from
interference-signal-conducting cables can be achieved
by an air clearance of 100 mm. When cables are in
metal ducts, sufficient decoupling from interference-
signal-conducting cables can be achieved by a
grounded partition
A minimum spacing of 200 mm to inductors in switch-
mode power supplies is required
If compensating currents are expected within the
overall system, provide a separate equipotential
bonding conductor. The shielding does not have the
function of an equipotential bonding conductor
Pay attention to the notes of the manufacturer of the
inverter system. If necessary, provide toroidal cores in
the motor leads, net filters, commutating reactors, or
take similar measures

General safety precautions
The specific safety precautions required for the individual
activities to be performed on the product are indicated in
the respective sections of these instructions.
DANGER
Danger of electric shock!
The improper connection of electrical devices may
result in serious personal injury or death by electric
shock.
The integrated encoder and the motor must be
connected only to subsequent electronics that meet
all requirements of PELV supply (EN 50178)
DANGER
Danger of electric shock!
Insulation faults in the device (e.g. damage to the
cable, faults in the device) can result in serious personal
injury or death by electric shock.
Do not operate the device if it has an insulation fault
The integrated encoder and the motor must be
connected only to subsequent electronics that meet
all requirements of PELV supply (EN 50178)
WARNING
Danger due to strong magnetic fields!
Strong magnetic fields in the surroundings of the
device present a health hazard for persons with
magnetically influenceable implants (e.g. heart
pacemakers).
Persons with magnetically influenceable implants
must maintain a safety clearance of 0.3 meter from
the device.
NOTICE
Damage to internal parts of the product!
Opening the product will result in forfeiture of warranty
and guarantee.
Never open the housing
Only the product manufacturer is permitted to
access the inside of the product
