Plug the cable from the 9-volt transformer supplied with the modem into the connector
on the back of the modem. Leave the modem powered off at this time.
Connect one end of the telephone cable provided with the modem to the wall jack and
the other end into the connector on the back of the modem. There are two connectors
on the back of the modem. Be sure to connect the cable to the incoming phone line con-
nector. This connector may be labelled "incoming line" or there may be a drawing of a
phone jack to indicate the proper connector.
Depending on the model of the modem, some has switches on the back or the side, the
following table acts only as a guide for the type of settings that is needed. Please refer to
the modem manual for more information.

signal for the modem to accept comment; dropping DTR ter-
minates a call
ON - Modem ignores DTR (Override)
OFF - Verbal (word) results
ON - Numeric results
OFF - Suppresses result codes
ON - Enables result codes
OFF - Displays keyboard commands
ON - Suppresses echo
OFF - Modem answers on first ring, or higher if specified in
NVRAM
ON - Disable auto-answer
OFF- Modem sends CD signal when it connects with another
modem, drops CD on disconnect
ON - CD always ON (Override)
OFF - Loads Y0-Y4 configuration from user-defined non-vola-
tile memory (NVRAM)
ON - Loads & FO - Generic template from read-only memory
(ROM)
OFF - Disables command recognition (Dumb Mode)
ON - Enables recognition (Smart Mode)
