Installing Optional Components

Note – See detailed instructions in your AnswerBook2 on the Sun Ultra 10 Software
Supplement CD (704-6624).
Tools Required
All procedures in this guide can be performed using a No. 2 Philips screwdriver.
Preparing for Installation
See Figure
To prepare for installation of optional components, you must power off the system,
remove the cover, and attach an antistatic wrist strap.
1. Power off the system as follows:
a. Exit from any applications that are running.
b. Press the front panel standby switch and immediately release it. You can also
press the Sun Type-5 Standby key (Power key on Type-6 keyboard) in the
upper right corner of the keyboard.
c. Turn off the power switch on the back panel.
d. Verify that the power indicator LED above the front panel standby switch is off
and listen to verify that the systems fans are not spinning.
e. Turn off power to the monitor and any peripheral equipment.
f. Disconnect cables to any audio devices and peripheral equipment from the
system.
2. Remove the cover as follows:
a. Turn the system upside down with the mounting feet upward.
b. Remove the two cover screws.
c. Slide the cover to the back of the system and lift.

The system goes through the internal shutdown procedures, properly exiting
the operating environment before power is removed from the system.
