Apache Server
Note – Apache Server is installed with Solaris 8 only.
Apache Server is an open-source HTTP server for various modern desktop and
server operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows NT. Apache Server provides
a secure, efficient, and expandable server that provides HTTP services that comply
with the current HTTP standards.
Getting Started with Apache Server
To activate the web server on your system, follow the steps below:
1. Become superuser (root) by typing
2. Copy the example configuration file httpd.conf-example to httpd.conf by typing
the following:
cp /etc/apache/conf/httpd.conf-example /etc/apache/conf/httpd.conf
3. Edit the configuration file to customize it for your system. For example, you
should set the HTML directory for your system.

4. Start the web server daemon by typing the following:
/etc/rc3.d/S50apache start
Perl
Note – Perl is installed with Solaris 8 only.
Perl is a programming language available as open-source software. Perl's process,
file, and text manipulation facilities make it particularly well-suited for tasks
involving quick prototyping, system utilities, or software tools.
Getting Started with Perl
Perl is installed on your system at /usr/bin. For information about using Perl, refer
to the man pages for the application by typing
