FastServe | Playout Components on Linux
The FastServe | Playout server is comprised of a few crucial components. Most important ones are
listed below:
•
Video Engine – this is the main engine responsible for playout of videos and images, via HDVG
boards to SDI. It performs all the decoding and reads. On Linux, the location of this component
is: /data/VE.
•
VECommander – the software that manages the commands received from controllers (like Cue,
Play, Jog, etc) as well as manages the database that stores information about the clips. On Linux,
the location of this component is: /data/VECommander. The database is based on the FireBird
system which is installed together with FastServe | Playout.
•
VEWatchFolder – this component is responsible for registering the video clips when copied to
the /Clips_WF directory. Clips, despite being copied to RAID, need to be registered in the
database so that the system has information about their parameters, such as duration, framerate,
thumbnail etc. Location of this component: /data/VEWatchFolder.
