Chapter 3: Connecting the PA300-CN System

Preparing to Connect the PA300-CN System

The PA300-CN has the following types of Convergence Network connections via cables and locking
connectors included with the PA300-CN kit:
Three "plug and play" serial ports that communicate on the Federal Signal Convergence Network with
the control pad, compatible lightbars, and the Federal Signal Model 660100 Relay Module/Two-Channel
Flasher.
Speakers, radio rebroadcast, a park disable circuit, and a horn ring circuit (cable assembly P/N 1461907)
Power wires for negative ground and positive 12 Vdc
Connections on the back of the control pad for four active-low input circuits that activate when pulled to
ground.
For instructions on configuring the operation of the devices connected through the Convergence Network,
see the "Control Pad Configuration Software Manual", P/N 2562620.
To prepare the vehicle for the electrical installation of the PA300-CN:
1.
Select jumper settings within siren amplifier, which are accessible through an opening in the case, for
these options:
GND or +12 V activation of the HORN RING transfer circuit (page 20)
GND or +12 V activation of the PARK INPUT circuit (Page 23)
2.
After planning where to route the wires and cables for the PA300-CN components—such as Federal
Signal warning lights, directional lights, and speakers—drill the holes for the wiring. Smooth, de-burr,
and insert a grommet in the holes. Apply silicone sealant where needed.

Connecting Serial Devices to the Convergence Network

There are three Convergence Network ports on the upper right corner of the PA300-CN siren amplifier.
These ports connect Federal Signal serially-controlled devices through RS-485 communication cables.
Network devices include:
The control pad. Use the 25-foot FS Convergence Network cable (P/N 1751357-02) to connect the
control pad to the siren amplifier.
Exterior-mounted, full-size lightbars, such as the Valor, Vision SLR, Arjent
Raydian
takedowns, and alley lights.

DRILLING PRECAUTIONS—When drilling holes, check the area into which you
are drilling to be sure that you do not damage vehicle components. All drilled
holes should be de-burred and all sharp edges should be smoothed. All wiring
routings going through drilled holes should be protected by a grommet or
convolute/split loom tubing.
