Initial Configuration via HART Modem

For security reasons, the network ID and join key have to be configured through a wired
connection (HART modem) before a WirelessHART device can connect to an existing
WirelessHART network.
You may use a HART modem that connects to a PC/Laptop using the USB interface or the
RS232 interface.
Note!
Install the driver delivered with the HART modem on your PC/Laptop according to the
instructions given by the manufacturer.
Connecting the device to a PC/Laptop via HART modem
1. If necessary, open the housing cover by unscrewing the four captive Phillips screws
(view Figure 3.14 on page 27).
2. Connect a HART modem to the terminals 5 + 6 or to the terminals 7 + 8. (view Figure
3.7 on page 21). If the modem has an internal communcation resistor, this should be
switched off at the first attempt to communicate. If communcation fails, a resistor may be
required (see chapter 8).
3. Switch on your PC/Laptop.
4. Plug the HART modem into the USB/RS232 port.
In case you are using the USB port, your PC/Laptop should recognize the HART
modem automatically. Proceed with the next step. If not, you will need to install the
driver delivered with the HART modem according to the instructions given by the
manufacturer.
In case you are using the RS232 port, proceed with the next step.
5. To see what com port number was assigned to the HART modem, select Start >
Seettings > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager.
Under "Ports (COM & LPT)" you should see the HART modem and the COM port
assigned to it. You will need the COM port number later on.
