How to Use the Manuals

DS1000/2000 Correspondence Course
Welcome to the NEC America DS1000/2000 Correspondence Course . This
course has been developed to provide an alternate method of instruction for the
experienced installer. With this course, you'll be able to work at your own pace,
start and stop at your own convenience, and most importantly, choose the method
of study that best suits your needs based on your telecommunications background
and present work load.
Included in this package is this Correspondence Course Workbook and a Corre-
spondence Course Answerbook. The DS1000/2000 manuals can be used for refer-
ence, but are not required for this course. The available manuals are the DS1000
and DS2000 Hardware and Software manuals, the Standard Practices manual, and
telephone user guides. You'll use the information in the Correspondence Course
Workbook to become familiar with the system. Then, as you follow the Corre-
spondence Course Workbook, you'll complete the Correspondence Course
Answerbook. Once you complete the Correspondence Course Answerbook,
return it to NEC for grading. Upon successful completion (a minimum final grade
of 80% is required), NEC will send you a signed course diploma verifying your
certification.

It is recommended that you have some previous telephony knowledge in order to
understand some of the terms used within the course. It is also recommended, but
not required, that you have a DS1000/2000 system available to try some program-
ming. This will help you get accustomed to the system and the programming
steps.
The DS1000/2000 Correspondence Course Workbook will provide all of the tech-
nical information you'll need to complete the certification test. For more indepth
information, you can refer to the system manuals. The following describes what
you can expect to find in each manual.
