OPC software application

An OPC server is a software application that acts as an API (Application Programming
Interface) or protocol converter. When connected to a device (e.g. a PLC, DCS or an RTU) or
a data source (e.g. a database or a user interface), the OPC server will transform the data into
a standard-based OPC format.
OPC-compliant applications (e.g. an HMI (Human Machine Interface), historical data
spreadsheet, or trending application) can connect to the OPC server and then use the server
to read device data. The protocol allows interconnection between field equipment such as
sensors, actuators and controllers.
OPC defines a common, high-performance interface that facilitates reuse of data via HMI,
SCADA controls, and custom applications.

Data transmission

The Wireless Communication Module transmits information using a wireless network (3G/
UMTS or GSM/GPRS). Manual or automatic network selection is possible.
Communication with users takes place via SMS, email or FTP.
The Wireless Communication Module has the following capabilities:
● sending and receiving SMS to and from predefined mobile phones
● sending measurement data (in csv file format) by email to the predefined email addresses
or customer specified FTP server
The measurement data collected from MAG 8000 is stored in the Wireless Communication
Module until it is fully transmitted. In case of a power or network failure the collected data will
remain in the Wireless Communication Module.
