4.3 Actions to be Taken Upon Operation of the PS591

Protection Circuit

The PS591 is provided with an output overvoltage protection circuit and an output
overcurrent protection circuit.
• The output overcurrent protection circuit is automatically reset when the unit and load
return to normal condition.
• The output overvoltage protection circuit is activated when the output voltage becomes
higher than the rated voltage due to the effects of this unit or some external cause. To
reset the circuit, turn input power back on.
The operation of the output overvoltage protection circuit may indicate a power unit
failure. It is recommended that a spare power unit be ready on hand.
If it was activated by the some external cause, the unit will operate normally when input
power is turned back on.
Operate as shown below.
(1) When the output overvoltage protection circuit is activated, the output voltage is
turned off (the LED on the front panel goes out).
(2) Turn input power off.
• When a spare power unit is available
(1) Check that the power unit load is normal.
(2) Remove the power unit from the terminal block.
If the PS591 unit is found hot, cool it before removing it.
(3) Turn input power back on and check that the power unit operates normally.
• When no spare power unit is available
(1) Check that the power unit load is normal.
(2) Keep input power turned off for more than 10 minutes.
(3) Turn input power back on and check that the power unit operates normally.
Turn off input power immediately if the power LED goes out or if abnormal smell, smoke
or fire is produced from the power unit.
Then contact your nearest TOSHIBA service station.
