Cobalt Terminology

It can be easier to understand Cobalt if you are familiar with the basic terminology.
Channels (terminology)
A Channel is the control handle used to call anything controlled by Cobalt. Regardless if it is a
dimmer channel, a moving device, a smoke machine or something else it will always correspond to a
channel number in the Patch. A channel will control nothing unless it is patched. You can start with a
patch 1:1.
To select a channel and set a level, enter the number and move the level wheel.

Attributes (terminology)
Any type of device that has more than intensity (color, movement etc) is called a device and the
control of non-intensity parameters, for example a moving device or a scroller, are called attributes.
These are patched to the controls of Cobalt when the Template corresponding to that device is
assigned to a control channel in the Patch.

Patch (terminology)
Patch is where outputs are assigned to channels, either directly in the case of dimmers or using a
Template in the case of devices. All settings pertaining to outputs, channels and devices are also
adjusted within the patch.

Groups (terminology)
Frequently used combinations of channels can be stored in up to 999 Groups, for quick recall from the
keypad or a remote focusing system.
