Muting the sound temporarily (MUTE)

÷ Press again to resume the original volume.
÷ This is also cancelled when the volume is adjusted.
Listening through headphones
1 Insert the headphone plug into the PHONES jack.

÷ Headphones with a stereo mini plug can be connected.
÷ The sounds from all speakers are cut off.
2 Adjust the volume with the VOLUME keys.
Tone adjustment (TONE)
Remote control unit only
The low frequencies (Bass), medium frequencies
(Mid) and high frequencies (Treble) can be adjusted
separately.
After this adjustment, the N.B. effect will be dis-
abled.
1 Press the TONE key to select "Bass".
Adjust the level using the VOLUME keys.

2 Press the TONE key again while "Bass" is
displayed to select "Mid". Adjust the level
using the VOLUME keys.
3 Press the TONE key again while "Mid" is
displayed to select "Treble". Adjust the
level using the VOLUME keys.
4 Press the TONE key once more.
÷ The Bass, Mid and Treble can be adjusted independ-
ently in the range from –4 to +4.

SOUND
Each press switch the modes as follows.
"S.DIRECT" ...... The source signal from a CD or
TAPE can be reproduced with high
fidelity to the original sound by
bypassing the tone control cir-
cuitry in the main unit.
Goes off ........... The source signal is processed by
the tone control circuitry before
being output from the main unit.
"N.B.1" ............. The lowest and highest frequen-
cies are enhanced according to
the current volume level.
"N.B.2" ............. Only the lowest frequencies are
enhanced.
Balance adjustment (Bal.)
The balance of volumes from the left and right speak-
ers can be adjusted as follows.
1 Press the MENU key.

2 Press the MULTI CONTROL keys to select
"Bal. ?" (Balance), then press the SET key.

÷ This adjustment is not available while "S.DIRECT" is
selected. "X" is displayed to indicate this.

3 Adjust the left and right speaker balance by press-
ing the MULTI CONTROL keys.

(up) key to shift the balance toward the Right
channel or press the fi fi fi fi fi (down) key to shift it toward the
Left channel. "Center" is displayed when the balance is
set to the center.
4 Press the SET key.
