Installing 3270 Data Modules

Requirements
The 3270 data module consists of a family of protocol converters that allow 3270-type
terminals to communicate with a host computer through the system. The three types of 3270
data modules are the following:
3270A (Asynchronous)
3270C (Controller)
3270T (Terminal)
3270 data modules are connected directly to TN754 Digital Line circuit packs. This manual
contains only information for connection to the data modules from the system switch.
Installation and testing information for the 3270 data modules is contained in the 3 2 7 0
DATA MODULE—Coaxial-to-DCP Protocol Converter—Product Guide, 999-700-520.
Installation
Connection to 3270A or 3270T Data Module (Figure 2-116)

Determine port assignment of 3270A or 3270T Data Module from Data Module
Form:
2 . Install patch cord at cross-connect field.
3 . Run and connect 4-pair line cord (modular plug on both ends) from information
outlet to data module (see Figure 2-116).

Connection to 3270C Data Module Through Cable Access Panel (Figure 2-117)

Identify carrier slot and label both ends of switch cable.
Connect cable to appropriate port carrier slot and dress cable down sides of

cabinet.

Run and connect cable from bottom of the switch cabinet through cable slack
manager, if provided, to unused CABINET CABLES connector on cable access
panel.
Run and connect A25D cable from DISTRIBUTION CABLES connector to location

of 3270C data module (see Note).
Note: The data module is located in the auxiliary cabinet, if provided.

Connect A25D cable to DCP connector on rear of data module.
