66-TYPE HARDWARE
Station Cables
For clarity in describing the wiring in this manual, station cable is either 25-pair cable,
multiple 25-pair cable, or 4-pair D-inside wire (DIW) run from the equipment room, a site or
satellite location, or adapter to the information outlets. The following types of station cable
(Figure 4-36) are available.
Connectorized 25-pair station cable—This cable is used between the equipment room
and the site or satellite locations or adapters. The cable used between the equipment
room and the satellite closet is an A25B (female to female). The cable used between
the equipment room and the site closet or adapter is a also an A25B (female to
female). The A25B cable is available with both ends connectorized (double-ended)
and it is also available with only one end connectorized (single-ended) for use when
punch-down connecting blocks are used.
Connectorized multiple 25-pair station cable—This cable can be optionally used
between the equipment room and the site or satellite locations or adapters. This
cable consists of individually sheathed 25-pair cables with factory-installed 25-pair
connectors on both ends. The cable used to connect to site locations or adapters
should be female to female. The cable used to connect to the satellite location should
also be a female to female. Staggered-finger cables are recommended for all multiple
25-pair station cables. The staggered-finger cables are available double-ended for use
when connectorized connecting blocks are used or single-ended for use when punch-
down connecting blocks are used.
Bulk Cable—This cable is the same as the connectorized 25-pair cable or multiple 25-
pair cable; however, the bulk cable is not connectorized on either end. It can be used
between the equipment room and satellite closets when both contain field-terminated
connecting blocks.
Nonconnectorized 4-pair station cable—This cable is used when 4-pair station cables
are to be field-terminated on the 66-type connecting blocks in the equipment room or
satellite closet and the information outlets require push-on connection.
Single modular plug-ended 4-pair station cable—This cable is used between adapters
and information outlets that require push-on connections. It can also be used when
4-pair station cables are punched-down on the 66-type connecting blocks in the
equipment room or satellite closet and modularly connected information outlets. The
station cables are available in the following standard lengths:
Double modular plug-ended 4-pair station cable—This cable is typically cut and used
to provide nonstandard length runs between adapters and information outlets with
push-on connections. It can also be used between adapters and modularly connected
information outlets. It is available in the same lengths as the single modular plug-
ended cable (see Note).
