Locating Information Outlets

It is the responsibility of the customer or marketing representative to provide floor plans
showing the information outlet locations and types (flush- or surface-mounted). The floor
plans must also provide a complete view of all conduit and cabling facilities in the building.

Locating Satellites and Sites

Use the following information when determining site, satellite, or adapter locations.
Keep the number of locations to a minimum.
a.
b.
To minimize the station wiring distances, centrally locate the sites, satellites, or
adapters among the information outlets.
c.
Site and satellite locations must be easily accessible and contain ac power outlets.

Adapter Requirements

One 258A or BR2580A adapter is required for each 25-pair station cable containing 4-pair
station circuits. One 356A adapter is required for each 25-pair station cable containing 3-
pair station circuits.

Z100A1 Connector Module Requirements

Each Z100A1 connector module used in a satellite location provides connections for twenty-
four 3-pair station circuits and twenty-four 4-pair station circuits. Hardware and patch cord
requirements are the same as those listed for the equipment room cross-connect field in
Table 2-E.

Sizing 4-Pair Station Cables (DIW)

Use the floor plan scale to determine the station cables (DIW) required per standard
Premises Distribution Systems wiring concepts.

Sizing 25-Pair and Multiple 25-Pair Station Cables

The floor plan scale is used to determine the approximate length of each station cable. The
station cables must be sized and selected properly to make maximum use of the Z100
hardware at the equipment room or satellite location.
Twenty-five pair B25A cables are used to connect adapters directly to the equipment room
cross-connect field or satellite location. Staggered-finger cables equipped with factory-
installed 25-pair connectors at both ends (male to female) are recommended for multiple 25-
pair cables run from the equipment room or satellite location to the adapters. B25A cables
are required at the equipment room or satellite location to connect the staggered-finger
cables to the connector modules.
Use the following information to determine the cable size (cable pairs) required for either 3-
pair or 4-pair circuits. Note the length and size on the floor plan to aid in the ordering and
installation of the station cables.

3-Pair Station Cable Circuits

To determine the size of station cables containing 3-pair circuits, multiply the number of 3-
pair circuits required at the satellite location by 3.5. This will provide additional pairs for
growth and compensate for the fact that every 25th pair in a cable is not used.
Using the minimum size cable requirement, select a cable size that is rounded up to the next
highest available cable bundle size.
