REPLACE THE FRONT FORK

WARNING
This section is one section of a complete service
manual. Before starting any procedure, read all
warnings and instructions that are located in the
Service Guidelines chapter.
1: Remove the steering reduction box assembly
2: Lift the front of the vehicle and support with jack stands.
3: Remove the front wheel/hub assembly and front brakes. Refer to the Front Axle Service section for
information regarding removing these components.
4: Support the fork so that it cannot fall from the vehicle and remove the fork spindle nut.
5: Remove the fork from the vehicle.
6: Remove the two front springs. Refer to the Suspension section for information regarding removing the front
springs.
7: Inspect the fork bearings, races, and seal; replace as needed.
8: Assemble in reverse order.
• Use a new fork spindle lock nut.
• Tighten the spindle nut to 110 foot pounds making sure the bearings are properly seated.
• Rotate the fork FULLY back and forth 5 times and torque again to 110 foot pounds
• Repeat until torque remains at 110 foot pounds.
• Loosen the nut 1/4 turn and torque to 70 foot pounds.
• Refer to the appropriate sections for installation of the Springs, Wheel, Steering Gear, and Brake.
