Test 4: Motor Turning
IMPORTANT! Verify that the interlock switch is ON,
but the display mode is OFF. With the motors
plugged into the interface board, using an 8" (200
mm) crescent wrench, slowly turn each motor to the
left and right.
CAUTION: Once the motor shaft stop pin hits the
motor bracket do not attempt to turn motor.
Figure 53
If the motors do not turn, unplug the motors from the
board and perform the same test.
IMPORTANT! Verify that the interlock switch is
OFF.
S
If the motors turn when they are unplugged,
there is an electrical issue.
S
If the motors do not turn when they are
unplugged, there is a mechanical issue and
the motor needs to be replaced.
Test 5: Identifying a Failed Motor
IMPORTANT! This test requires a meter with a 9
VDC battery. Repeat these steps for all 3 motor
plugs.
IMPORTANT! Verify that the interlock switch is
OFF. Unplug the motor from the interface board and
perform the following tests.
Step 1
Check all pins on the motor plug to ground. All
readings should be OL. If the reading is not OL, the
motor has shorted and will need be replaced.
Troubleshooting
Before replacing the motor, complete all remaining
troubleshooting procedures to determine the cause
of the short.
Step 2
Measure the phase windings resistance on pins 7 to
8, 7 to 9, and 8 to 9 of the motor plug. All readings
should be approximately the same (example: 4.2,
4.2, 4.2). If all of the readings are not similar, the
motor has failed and needs to be replaced. Note:
Readings will vary depending on ambient
temperature.
Step 3
Measure resistance with the
pin 1 to pins 4, 5, and 6 of the motor plug. All
readings should be approximately the same. If all of
the readings are not similar, the motor has failed and
needs to be replaced.
Step 4
Measure resistance with the
pin 2 to pins 4, 5, and 6 of the motor plug. All
readings should be approximately the same. If all of
the readings are not similar, the motor has failed and
needs to be replaced.
