Model C845 Heating System Operation - Pimple Pilot

Starting with serial number M2125255, the Model
C845 is built with the pimple pilot electrode.
Pimple Pilot Electrode
The pimple pilot is a style of electrode that
implements a gas line. The electrode ground rod is
replaced by a ground tube. The tube serves two
purposes. It operates as a ground for the spark and
it directs a small amount of raw gas (not mixed with
air) to the spark gap to create a pilot flame. A bridge
has been added to ensure the spark gap remains
fixed over time.
Air Section
The fan operates. Static pressure builds up and
engages the static pressure switch. Air is distributed
to the venturi tube. The amount of air supplied to the
burner is controlled by the air adjustment rod.

Controls and Systems
Gas Section
The pimple pilot gas line is connected to the grill's
gas supply after the gas valves and before the
blower. A 90 degree integral orifice regulates the
gas to the pimple pilot.
Gas from the supply is regulated through the gas
regulator. Gas is distributed through the gas
solenoids to the burner and the gas pilot electrode.
Upon ignition, the solenoids remain open and gas is
supplied to the orifice on the burner venturi and
pimple pilot.
Burner Section
Air and gas is mixed in the burner venturi. This
mixture is forced through openings in the burner and
is ignited. Combustion gases are released through
the flue at the rear of the grill.
The pimple pilot system also includes a new lower
burner. The burner iincludes a formed-in grounding
screen. The incorporated screen increases the
sensitivity to the flame sense signal.
