As shown in Figure E-3, a two-switch setup is possible; however, one switch will be elected as
Root, either by priority or by the MAC Address. This switch will be the primary link until it is
physically down, as it is the Root.

E.3.1
Spanning Tree (Global) Configuration – CiscoIOS
To set up STP with a Priority of 16384 for the switch:

spanning-tree mode pvst
spanning-tree extend system-id
spanning-tree vlan 1 priority 16384

Alternately, rapid-pvst mode can be used to run RSTP.

Interface Configuration – CiscoIOS
To set up the interface to be Edge Port/Portfast:

interface GigabitEthernet0/7
switchport mode access
switchport nonegotiate
spanning-tree portfast
!
Note that the first two commands disable the native trunk negotiation in IOS.

Product Control with a user-supplied PC:

Management System (NMS) and Management Information Base (MIB) File Browser.
