6. Ignition coil resistance
9Disconnect the ignition coil connector from
the ignition coil terminal.
9Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1) to the igni-
tion coil as shown.
Positive tester probe → → terminal 1 1
Negative tester probe → →

9Measure the primary coil resistance.
Primary coil resistance
0.32–0.48 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
9Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1k) to the
ignition coil as shown.
Negative tester probe → → terminal 1 1
Positive tester probe → → spark plug lead 2 2

9Measure the secondary coil resistance.
Secondary coil resistance
5.68–8.52 kΩ at 20°C (68°F)
9Is the ignition coil OK?
YES
ignition coil base 2 2
NO
Replace the ignition
coil.

7. Pickup coil resistance
9Disconnect the pickup coil coupler from the
wire harness.
9Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 100) to the
pickup coil terminal as shown.
Positive tester probe → → white 1 1
Negative tester probe → → red 2 2
9Measure the pickup coil resistance.
Pickup coil resistance
248–372 Ω at 20°C (68°F)
(between white and red)
9Is the pickup coil OK?
YES

8. Main switch
9Check the main switch for continuity.
Refer to "CHECKING THE SWITCHES".
9Is the main switch OK?
YES
