TROUBLESHOOTING

Any of the following fail to light: head-
light, high beam indicator light, taillight, or
meter light.
Check:
1. light switch
2. lighting coil resistance
3. wiring connections
(of the entire lighting system)
NOTE:
9Before troubleshooting, remove the following
part(s):
1. rear cowlings
2. headlight assembly
9Troubleshoot with the following special tool(s).
Pocket tester

1. Light switch
9Check the light switch for continuity.
Refer to "CHECKING THE SWITCHES".
9Is the light switch OK?
YES NO
The light switch is
faulty. Replace the
right handlebar
switch.

2. Lighting coil resistance
9Disconnect the stator coil coupler from the
wire harness.
9Connect the pocket tester (Ω × 1) to the
lighting coil terminals as shown.
Positive tester probe → → yellow 1 1
Negative tester probe → → black 2 2
9Measure the lighting coil resistances.
Lighting coil resistance
0.24–0.36 Ω at 20°C (68°F) (Y – B)
9Is the lighting coil OK?
YES

3. Wiring
9Check the entire lighting system wiring.
Refer to "CIRCUIT DIAGRAM".
9Is the lighting system wiring properly con-
nected and without defects?
YES
Check the condi-
tion of each of the
lighting system cir-
cuits.
Refer to "CHECK-
ING THE LIGHT-
ING SYSTEM".

Replace the stator
coil/pickup coil
assembly.
NO
Properly connect or
repair the lighting
system wiring.
